Indisputable Kings of
Merengue - Los Toros Band
|
November 2003 - This renowned group has triumphed
since their beginnings, having impacted the cosmopolitan
world with their mernegue and bachat rhythms; spiced with
dynamic, fresh, unique sounds and lyrics, Los Toros Band
are indisputable considered wordwide as the musical ambassador
of the Dominican Republic.
Their music reunites Latin frontiers with tropical rhythms
which include bachata, salsa and merengue. And while most
groups target a certain musical genre, Los Toros Band incorporate
tastes and styles for all ages, perfectly balancing each
and every one of their songs to listeners and dancers alike.
Since their 1991 debut in the Dominican Republic, Los Toros
Band have filled stadiums in Puerto Rico, Canada and major
cities within the United States. Their songs have made people
dance in Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Spain. Even the
Asian continent has fallen victim to their infectious rhythms!
Los
Toros Band's founder, Gerardo Diaz, better known as "El
Toro Mayor" (Big Bull) discovered singer-songwriter
Hector Acosta, now more commonly known as "El Torito"
(Little Bull). Hector is an innate musician. With no formal
training he learned anything and everything musical by "ear".
Accompanying "Little Bull" are Olvis Garcia, Luis
Jose Alcequies and Robin Joel Vasquez.
When
nominated for a Latin Grammy award in 2001 for "Pa
La Calle" this was more than what any one of the band
members had ever imagined possible. There's nothing more
meaningful or satisfying for an artist than recognition
from his peers. It's the drive that provides inspiration...It's
the sole purpose of their "being".
All
this being said, Los Toros have enjoyed over 13 releases
including "Se Soltaron los Toros" (1991), "Pa
Que Sigan Bailando" (1995), "Lo Bailan Bien"
(1995), "Toromania" (2000), "Pa' La Calle"
(2001) and "Serenata" (2003) amongst others.
This
new release, "Indentenibles", affirms their place
as the ambassadors of their native Santo Domingo. A band
who has crossed frontiers and surpassed eras.
"Indentenibles" is perhaps the best word to describe
this group and this album - a collectable one indeed - dancing
from start to finish.
"Me Tiraste al Mar", "Buscala Tu", "A
Donde Vas Amor", and "Loca Conmigo", first
single to radio, written by Ramon Orlando, Victor Victor
and Jorge Villamizar (singer/songwriter for Bacilos), provide
musical satisfaction for anyone who's looking for something
to satisfy any given mood.
