MIAMI, FL <April 7, 2009> - Latin music superstar DON OMAR plays an essential role in "Fast & Furious," the blockbuster action-thriller from Universal Pictures that set a historic April weekend sales record with a box-office take of $72.5 million in its opening three days this past weekend.
In the film, Don Omar plays a member of Doms <Vin Diesel> bandit crew. He helps open the movie with a thrilling sequence involving a heist gone wrong alongside another reggaeton music star, Tego Calderón. Don Omars hit song "Virtual Diva," the first single from the new album IDON, appears on the movies soundtrack during an important club scene between Vin Diesel and Paul Walker.
The importance of Dons participation in the film is further enhanced by the box-office results that showed that the opening weekend audience was 46% Hispanic. "Fast & Furious" also broke the April opening weekend record that had been previously held by "The Lost World: Jurassic Park."
Since the worldwide premiere of his new video, "The Chosen: Virtual Diva," a clip that remains in heavy rotation across the globe, Don Omar has been preparing for the international release of his new album, IDON. To support the release of his new album, set to be released by Machete Music, the Latin music superstar will embark on a promotional tour throughout the United States, with stops in Miami, Los Angeles, New York and Puerto Rico.
Don Omar will also celebrate the release of his new album with a special performance of "Virtual Diva" at the Latin Billboard Music Awards. The awards will take place on April 23 and will be broadcast live from the Bank United Center at the University of Miami live on Telemundo.
